IRC on comcast

heya...

has anyone else experienced problems trying to stay on IRC chat from Comcast internet service?  i just moved, and my roommates have their "service."  it has been completely impossible to stay on IRC for more than a few seconds at a time, and some internet searching has revealed that this is a somewhat widespread problem.  i can stay on the internet, AIM, etc...just not IRC, no matter which client i try.

we may change soon [i sure hope we do], but for the time being, has anyone here succeeded at being on IRC from Comcast's piece-of-crap internet connection?  any pointers as to how i can stay on IRC?

Did you try a web-based client?

oh baby, i forgot completely.
i use data streams to install applications, cos compiling from source is like slackware; it's so 1990's. anyways, i put the correct paths into your $PATH so you can use irssi and stuff, also, if you would like to see a list of packages i recently added do:
-bash-4.0#ls-pkgs

or something like that just use tab autocompletion. Now, a second thing is "screen." you can do
-bash-4.0#screen irssi

and this will start a shell with irssi, that you can escape from by typing ctrl+a+d.  Then you can log off from UltraSPARC and log back in via ssh and type:
-bash-4.0#screen -r

and it will reconnect you to your irc session, if my box doesn't restart. So, there you go, hope you like it.

also i changed your passwd back to what it was before to use the account to make the .bashrc, and to run it you have to type "bash" when you login. thanks!
