120V to the Mouthpiece

I have POTS and a 1977 Western Electric ATT rotary dial type phone. Abbie Hoffman said that if I unscrew the mouthpiece and hook 120V AC directly up to the exposed leads that it would take out 1/2 the neighborhood's phones. Is that worth it?

Why stop at 120 volts?  Hook up the 240 volt wire from your dryer to it.  That's like 10 times the voltage!  You could take out so many more phones that way.  I wonder if this would work on cell phones too.

I used to tell people that if they hooked their PC up to 240V it would run twice as fast.........and they bought it!
