If you take a look at
this post on Consumerist.com, you'll see this:
Casio Voids Warranty, Claims There's A Fingerprint Inside New Camera. Sam can't get his 6-month-old Casio camera repaired under warranty because Casio's U.S. repair center says the camera has been opened. Sam writes that he's even sent in copies of his fingerprints to compare to the inside of the camera, but so far Casio won't budge. This is where I feel like it's okay to "scam" the company. Sam should buy a brand new camera just like his old one, then return the old one in the new box. If he tells the store it's faulty, they'll send it back to the company and they'll deal with it. I read Consumerist every day and there's always stories like this, where either a company like Casio or a store refuses to take back a faulty item. It's especially bad when the guy actually has a warranty on the item.
When my Playstation 2 quit working after a year, I swapped K-Mart for a brand new one. Why should I have to pay to have it repaired when I paid nearly $200 for it? Same thing with my Xbox 360 - it's starting to give us classic Xbox 360 issues. I'm not going to blow $300 for a new one. I'm going to have it replaced with a brand new one for free. I know if I tried to have Microsoft repair it I would go through hell and probably end up paying them money. They get enough money from me with my Xbox Live subscription. I don't expect consumer electronics to last forever, but they shouldn't die after just a year or two. Especially the ones that you pay hundreds of dollars for.
