A friend and I came across this last night: using your SMS e-mail gateway address, you can get on to some Facebook networks that you normally cannot get on to. In the case of TELUS, their corporate e-mail addresses are all @telus.com, but Facebook recognizes @msg.telus.com as a valid corporate e-mail account.
Certainly, this could be applied to T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, et cetera.
However, there is one catch.
In the case of TELUS, if the text message exceeds 240 characters, that's it. The text message you receive will only get a part of the e-mail minus the hash at the end that is needed in order to get on the network. GSM carriers might get away with a bit more, but so far we haven't figured a way around this.
Has anyone else given this a try?
