Ahhh the magic of an internet cafe.  Every third world country has these now.  And they are very cheap in the third world.  And all i was saying is when you have no money you go hungry and that motivates you to take any means to get it.  Even ripping off old ladies.

I wonder if that's from actual victims or just from people who were contacted but not actually scammed.

I've called them in 2-3 times just for contacting me.  I don't know what method they use for contacting but it only happens on my business lines, never anywhere else.  They do seem to target the people that work for big companies... isn't it the best place to start?  I think the 'desperate' merely have a greater probability to take the bait.

Mate, let me explain you something, I've been moving around the world since I was 6 and I'm telling you that in 3rd world countries the people who has no food has no access to Internet neither; and even if the can get it somehow they have no access to a Bilingual education (less to a technical one).
These kind of people (the scammers) work for pretty big and dangerous organizations so seriously don't underestimate them just because they languages skills are crap.

OK, gotta go back to work!!

Cheers.

If they work for a big corporation then they are people who have no access to food or internet until a big corporation sponsors them.  I think you just answered your own questions.  Besides there is nothing technical to what they do.  All they do is talk about god and ask you to send their bank account info.  Thats all stuff my sister could do.  Also i would hardly call what they speak bilingual education.

I wouldn't consider the mafia a corporate sponsor.  Nigerian fraud gangs are kind of like that, and some of them get into dangerous shit beyond scamming grannies over the internet.  Sometimes they lure their victims to Nigeria, where they are kidnapped, and occasionally killed when the ransom isn't paid.

Here is a source where you can get an overview

http://home.rica.net/alphae/419coal/

Like I said though, it's mafia Nigerian style.  They don't have a central godfather type, but more of a bunch of local bosses they call Oga who runs the gang.  Some of the Ogas are big time though.

Man this looks different from when it was on CAL's.

Anyway, you just said you work for a big business. Which means that you're desperate in a different way. You're desperate because you revel in consumption and have no moral compass.

I'm using an editorial you. It may not literally be you, but the business/big businesses in general. Or it could be you specificially as well, you heartless bastard [/joke]

Just because they're poor doesn't give them the right to screw people.

Way to bump, dude.

Look at corporate welfare, though: In our own country, the rich are able to screw over the poor through clever tax loopholes, lobbying, business mergers, lawyers, and general intimidation.

It's not right, but it happens.

Fuck it. People are going to get scammed whether we approve of it or not. Let's not kid ourselves.

if the people are stupid enough to beleive the nigerians they should have there money taken away... (RBCP should start advertising people to come here so they learn how to detect a fake nigerian scam... yet the people who got scammed probably dont know anything other than fishing with dynamite)

I'm always amused when people talk about how the Nigerians use poor english, as if they're ignorant because they're in Africa.

Fact is, english is the national language in Nigeria, and in a large city like Lagos, most people are fluent in it.

I often wonder myself why these scammers use such poor grammar and spelling. I imagine it's because they're mostly underage kids or uneducated adults, or maybe they're doing it deliberately in attempt to appear unsophisticated and thereby throw their marks off-guard...
