From my journal:

I was up and getting the kids ready for school. I came upstairs to my office to check email and I heard the DJ on the radio (the MJ & BJ Morning Show) talking about planes hitting buildings, terrorist attacks and asking what the hell was going on. So I flipped on the TV to CNN to see if there was anything about it on TV. It didn't seem like that big of a deal to me at first, I just thought it was some kind of weird accident and didn't think it was actually a commercial plane. On CNN they're showing pictures of just the one tower hit and a lady is on the phone talking about what had happened. Then she stops and says, "Oh my god, another plane just hit the building!" At the time CNN didn't have a very good camera angle on it but after a few seconds you can see that a 2nd plane has hit.

I watched for a few more minutes and then went downstairs to show my daughter Emily. She didn't care and just got mad at me for turning off her cartoons. She was just in kindergarten at the time, I don't think there was a way to explain to her that it was real and not just a TV show. So I come back upstairs and call my mom at work to tell her about it. At the time she was the manager of a grocery store so she puts the radio news on the PA in the store so all the customers can hear it. I think I called a few more people to see if they'd heard about it, then I went downstairs to finish getting the kids ready and took them to school. All the moms dropping their kids off were going on and on about it. I just wanted to get back in the car and keep listening to the radio to see if anything else had happened.

When I got back home I didn't get any work done at all that day. I just sat at the computer with about 4 chat windows open, talking to everyone about stuff as it unfolded. I stayed on fark.com and watched CNN all day. It was a bizzare day, listening to everything unfold. There were tons of rumors going on like the Washington mall being on fire and planes falling out of the sky all over the country, a plane hitting the White House, etc.

So that's it, that's what I did. I sat in front of a computer all day, mesmerized by the events that were happening. Any time that I had to leave the house, I would hurry to the car and turn on the radio just to be sure that I didn't miss anything new happening.

Grade seven, Home Economics class. We watched the second plane hit live (not sure how we found out so fast, but oh well). A bunch of kids in the school wouldn't stop crying; my class was either the only or one of the only that got to watch it.
My father works for the airlines, so I knew about the capacity of a 757/767 aircraft. When they announced how many people were aboard the planes, the first thing I said was "That's it?" I was almost as confused as to why there were so few people on an airplane at rush hour out of New York as to why the buildings were being attacked. The seeds of my disbelief in the official story were sown then.

And apparently there were shows on TV about the conspiracy theory last night? Even as someone who's followed it since it started, I think that was a little inappropriate.

What is the capacity of the 757/767?  You piqued my curiousity, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

For the record, I did basically the same thing RBCP did all day... watched mesmerized as everything unfolded and called my friends to find out if they'd heard about it yet.  I managed to find out about it initially on Howard Stern though.  That always amuses me when I think about it.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with murd0c that war is very, very bad.
May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.

Speaking of Howard Stern, the clips from his show on 9/11/2001 are interesting to listen to.  Howard inturrupts whatever lesbian they happen to be discussing with the news, they make jokes about it, try to go back to smut, then the 2nd plane hits and they start getting serious.  Here's clips of their show that morning:

I'll third this.

I was a senior in High School. my dad woke me up. "You're going to be late for school. Oh, and the World Trade Center was attacked." very non-chalant. I was still in a sleepy haze and couldn't grasp it, and some how confused World Trade Center with World Trade Organization... so I kinda thought it was cool at first. Then when I turned on the TV and realized a) it was the WTC, not the WTO, and b) people, obviously, were dying, I realized it was not so cool. Within in seconds of turning on the TV, I saw the second plane hit live. I was pretty dazed and got in my car to drive to school. A Violent Femmes CD was in my car player, and as soon as I started my car a part of the song "America Is" started playing, with the exact phrase "Murder, murder in the government! Say you're sorry, say you're sorry!" and that was creepy. At school all day of course we talked about nothing but that, getting updates as the news made it available. I knew immediately we'd be off fighting a ridiculous war because of the whole situation. It was very depressing.

The 767 models (200 series) have two different capacities, depending on whether it is split between economy and first class or if it is one class. The two class set-up has a capacity of 224, maximum capacity in single class is 290.

The 757 models (also 200 series) also has the dual class possibility. Single class takes 240. Dual class takes between 178 and 208.

Flight AA11 has 92 passengers. AA77 had 64. UA175 had 56. UA93 had 45.

See why I was surprised? All of the passengers combined couldn't fill a maxed-out 767.

I was working for Sprint PCS and the second plane that hit brought down the second tower onto a Verizon CO at the same time everyone was making calls.  We had to rush and put COW's up to handle the load.  For those that dont know a COW is a cell site on wheels.  That was a pretty stressful year for me.

I was in Vegas.  Woke up from a hard night of booze, gambling and hookers to the image of smoke billowing from the first tower on every channel.  Im not sure how long I sat on my bed just staring at the television.  When I came out of shock I decided that I had better get home now or I would not be sure when I would be able to fly home.

People all over Vegas were panicing because they couldnt fly home right away so they were buying cars right off of car lots to drive home, taking taxis home to CA, even renting limos.  My only other option was a Greyhound bus.  I spent seven hrs waiting in line at the bus station to just get a ticket, and another 5hrs to get on the bus.

The next 2 days were spent zig zagging across half the county on a packed greyhound bus.

Thanks for posting the link to those recordings from Howard Stern RBCP, that was really something to hear.

I was in the office at work when a dude came to me and the manager and asked if we had heard that 2 jets crashed into the WTC. The place was run by nazi's so I didn't get to look into it right away.

I told everyone out in the shop what I had been told and they laughed, saying I wassa dumass for beleiving an office prank. Finally the supervisor and I snuck into an empty office and saw news of it on the net. At break I listened to my car radio and they said the towers had collapsed, I wasn't too sure what that meant, and the idea I had of it was nothing close to what really happened. I got a detailed explanation when I stopped home for lunch and saw it on TV. I didn't go back to work that day. I had to go wake up my drunk brother and best freind and tell them too. The wierdest thing where I lived was not seeing all the air traffic heading in and out of O'Hare. And they jacked up the gas here in Indiana and Illinois too. :-\

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.  It was hilarious.  By 5pm on 9/11, every gas station in my city had a line of cars several blocks long waiting to get in.  I didn't have my camera, but I wanted to snap a few pictures for notla.com with the headline of, "Terrorist attacks turn area residents into retards!"

Ah, I've wanted to post in here for sooooooo long!

I was in music with my gay teacher in 6th grade.  The principal made an announcment and he was all like "Oh my god oh my god".  He called his "Wife" and asked her what was going on.  While yelling at us to "remain calm!".  Nobody really did anything, except Mr. Ringland, he was panicing all around while everybody was lauging at him.
