Hey, you didn't put the link to the episode in the RSS feed. I have to actually come to the site now to DL it? Manual labor...geez.

Not a bad ep. More interesting than humorous.

I took that out, thinking it wouldn't be needed since the file is in the enclosure tag.  Sorry about that.  I'll be sure to put it back in there on the next show.

Nice work, RBCP. Informative, and a funny idea to turn hundreds of I-Pods into toll fruad devices :). I wonder how fast they'll stop accepting ACTS down at the toll centers after this podcast.

BTW, this will probably be my last post. I'm dropping out of the scene for a while.

Remember that the tones on the show won't work in the Great White North.

Remember that the tones on the show won't work in the Great White North.

About that: From what it seems, there might be two different ACTS systems in Canada--an Eastern and a Western one. The variation between Western tones and what I have found here on the other coast is immense. However, I still haven't had a chance to test the "other" tones, because every operator transfers me for free and I can't find any Proctor Test numbers.

Which igloo-congregation do you hail from, Alpha?

South-Western Ontario, Bell territory.

From what I hear, the Canadian ACTS is called NACTS. I had a friend make some tones for me, but I think he screwed the timing up, because one quarter lasts way longer than the ACTS tones heard on the show. Wanna e-mail me the tones you're using?

And besides, red boxing those damn Millenium fones is hard as hell.

There's a bit on PLA's red boxing page about Canadian tones.  Don't know if it's accurate, but here's what it says:

A nickel is 2200hz, 0.06s on,
A dime is 2200hz, 0.06s on, 0.06s off, 0.06s on, 0.06s off (2 beeps).
A quarter is 2200hz 33ms on, 33ms off repeated 5 times.

Here's a Canadian red box tone:

^^This is a recording of a quarter put into a phone on (eastern) NACTS.

^^This is a computer generated version of it, for EXTRA CLARITY, so you can BOX WITH EFFICIENCY.

It probably sounds longer than on the "show" (I imagine you mean PLA12?) because, from the looks of it, NACTS tones are not only on a different frequency but also different timings than ACTS.

If you want to make your own tones, download a program called NCH Tone Generator. You can make .wav recordings of any tone you want: overlapping tones, specified durations of time, etc. It is perfect for replicating phone sounds. It is very easy to find the frequencies for whatever you want to do on the web (here is one site).

I want you to do something for me, though: find a Centurion or Fortress, call your answering machine or voicemail, and once it starts recording, drop in a quarter, dime, and nickel, with a few seconds space between each. Send me that recording when you're done (I am convinced the tones are different out that way!).

And besides, red boxing those damn Millenium fones is hard as hell.

If you're trying to redbox without passing through an operator, My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself..

Well yeah, who the fuck wants to talk to those bitches!? They're so snooty. Especially the daytime ones.

Find a Centurion or Fortress!? Hahahahahahahhahahahaaa! I'll go find a yeti and have lunch with a leprechaun too.  ;D (No, really, they don't exist anymore. Not out here anyway. Nothing but Milleniums as far as the eye can see.)
