I want to know exactly what every single person on these forums received for Christmas.  And maybe what you gave people if it's not completely boring.  If it's boring I'm deleting your post and your account and banning your IP.

I got a Kindle reader, a George Foreman grill which I'm sure he invented himself, a new Leatherman since TSA stole mine this summer, and Plants vs. Zombies for the xbox 360.  I now have PVZ on 3 platforms.

I got an Android M860. During the first ten minutes of owning the phone I downloaded trevelyn's redbox application for it and another that has 30 random fart noises. Combining both of these I made a few local calls to people I know to wish them a Merry Christmas for free from a pay phone in the snow while making fart noises with another application.

Technology is wasted on me.

Also got Clerks on DvD, which means it has taken me ten years to update from VHS.

I got Futurama Vol 5., the newest Trailer Park Boys movie, a collection of Anna Mercury and Stranger Kisses comics, lots of food, silly straw glasses, a bunch of old creationist VHS tapes (including one where a Christian alien keeps getting kidnapped by falling for the oldest and msot obvious kidnapper tricks from the 50's) and a sad, sad dvd called Kitten Party.  Oh, and a brand new PLA Newsletter!  That was my favorite but I haven't cracked the Futurama dvds yet.  And a magic gravity ball which I gave away immediately.  The only accurate word in that title is "ball".

I gave: an old game called Space Checkers which was seen in an old Star Trek episode, a bunch of records and books, candy, and miscellaneous boring other stuff...an old, battered paperback called The Beats for my ex-beatnik brother with a few packs of '80 Topps baseball cards.

I gave my two-year-old nephew a toddler-sized indoor basketball set so he can get used to throwing stuff at other stuff inside the house and drive my sister crazy.  Then I fixed and assembled some of his other toys and presents and set up my sister's new kindle for her.  THIS EXCITES ALL OF YOU.

Actually the kindle sort of makes me raise a curious brow. Ereaders are just a foreign creature to me; but only so due to the fact that if I want to read a book, I want the physical book in my hands. I've yet to see a real benefit besides saving space. The idea of batteries powering my literature turns me off to the idea.

i am actually very interested in getting an e-reader, mostly for PDF files of user manuals, etc.. the e-ink displays are much easier on your eyes than staring at a PC or laptop screen - i am just not sure that it makes economical sense for me to get one since i really do not read books... but since most of the trade magazines that i read have stopped publishing hard copies, and gone all digital i really have not had a chance to keep up with them.. perhaps an e-reader would help me to keep up with all of the trade magazines that i have not been able to keep up with since they stopped publishing...

I love my Kindle and I'll do a ton of reading on it.  The batteries last for weeks between charging since it only consumes power to turn a page.  I found a 900 meg torrent full of awesome books in Kindle format to get me started, but I'm sure I'll occasionally purchase books on it and I'll probably sign up for a 2600 subscription too.  It's weird to hold a lightweight piece of plastic in my hands instead of a book, but I've quickly adjusted.

What kind of trade magazines?  Most magazines can be easily replaced by blog reading the same subjects.  The Kindle does blog reading too, though I'm not sure if it reads free blogs since I haven't messed around with that feature much.  It reads PDF files, but it doesn't do a good job at resizing them so they're easy to read, which sucks since I have a lot of books in that format.  I had the same probably with the Sony Reader that I borrowed from a friend earlier this year.

I just hope Amazon brings down the price on old books.  It's hard to buy a 20-year-old book for the Kindle when I can buy it for 1/5th of the price at a used book store.

well telephony was replaced with connected planet - which no longer publishes print magazines, as well as lightwave which has gone all online now..

the only things that i do consistently on line is check the PLA and BINREV forums, and answer questions on Yahoo Answers.. I do follow one blog - http://voipguides.blogspot.com/ but i would much rather have a print copy of my trade magazines - i do not spend much time during the day while i am at work in front of a PC screen since i am usually installing or repairing CAT3/CAT5 cabling - only when I am home, so since my magazines have gone out of print i have not really been able to keep up with them.. occasionally i will click thru some of the emails that they send me and read up on the articles...

thanks for letting me know about the PDF formatting, because that is the main reason that I want a e-reader...

anyone knows of any good trade magazines relating to telecom that i can get a physical magazine??

The Kindle and other brands of e-readers are useful for reading the PLA monthly newsletter and the PLA Book.
