First off... my birthday is in March, so really you're just 3 months early, I-Ball.  But thanks!  Happy Birthday to you too!

And Frog... well last time I actually created a character and played (as opposed to having a pre-generated character at my friend's con) was 2002 and I was a Level 2 Elven Bard.

But really... I just do it for the pretty dice:

Well, me and a friend like D&D alot, but none of my other friends do. I have a first level ardent, but I have never played with it. I've only played three or so times, but I have 3 D&D books: The complete adventurer, the complete psionic, and the Expanded Psionics handbook. I've also gone to the strategy club at my school, but I don't like any of the kids there.

Why don't you have the rulebooks?

My friend has them. I've borrowed them for long enough to now the basics of d&d.

D&D always seemed pretty gay compared to something like RIFTS or GURPS. Not that I ever played any of them (seriously, nobody plays either of them and playing them online is near impossible).

But for those of you who have played d&d, what were your campaigns like?

Here's a story of a campaign I was going to make, but did not because of my laziness. It involves the killing of gods, similar to those of Morrowind (great, great game). I just love the idea (I have nothing against gods or anything).

In a very basic sense, there is a wolrd that is governed and kept balanced by three gods. I think there names were Lexos, Mauro, and Acosta (if you are into trance music, you will recognize those names). Each god had a general alingment: Neautral (Mauro), good (Acosta), and evil (Lexos). Somehow, Acosta had been murdered, and actually fell from the sky, his fall similar to that of a meteor, upon his death. A heavily fortified structure of some sort was made around the body of Acosta in hope of possibly reviving the God. This structure becomes a frequently visited location in the Campaign.

Anyways, with Acosta dead, the world is changed. Visually, beautiful things are scarecly found in nature, but the beautiful things created by those with intelligence are not altered, and intelligent creatures can still create beautiful things. Also, creatures of evil begin to appear during the night, with more and stronger creatues appearing as the campaign advances. The alingments of the intelligent creatures of the world, however, are not altered.

The characters could attempt to restore balance either by concentrating on reviving Acosta (which would involve something like obtaining a magical/psionic object, or by somehow creating a gate of some sort between the plane of the gods and earth, which would be heavily guarded by the most powerful creatures of the campaing next to the gods themselves, or possibly the players) or by killing Lexos, which would involve either going to the plane of the gods or the gods coming to earth.

Also, what kind of character do you like to play as?

Sure.

It's just roleplaying with dice to add elements of chance. One person plays the DM or Dungeon Master, and he tells a story. The other people assume the role of characters in the story. It's like those "choose your own adventure" books, but the world is in someone's head, allowing infinite flexibility in the actions you can make. So say, instead of being presented with turning to page 112 or 164, you say what you want to do, and the DM makes the action affect the direction of the story.

i first started playing d&d in middle school. the campaign was formulaic, and the characters were thinner than the paper they were written on. still, it was tons of fun, and i wouldn't replace the time i spent playing it with anything else. fast forward to the summer between sophomore and junior years, and i was wanting to play seriously. problem was, all of my friends were more into other (slightly less legal) stuff. ever tried to get a stoner to pay attention to math? needless to say...its pretty tough.  i ended up turning the campaign i wanted to do into a full fledged story. i really liked the race known as illithids (or mind flayers). their tendency to eat brains reminded me of shang tsung, what with the stealing of powers and whatnot. i eventually bought the book 'lords of madness' which led me to the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
