How to heal a loved one.
« on: July 11, 2007, 01:36:39 PM »
Today is a sad day, a very very sad day.

Today I learned a life lesson. When I went to the beach this morning, I forgot I had my phone in my pocket. I walked into the water and immediately thought "shit I have my phone in my pocket don't I". I checked my pocket and their it was, wet and off. I then sprinted up to the shore, towel dried my phone, and let it dry in the sun for an hour.

I decided then the car would be a better place to dry it hoping the immense heat in the vehicle would vaporize the remaining H2O. I tried and tried to turn my phone one but no luck, all I got was a flashing screen.

When I got home I hit up a can of compressed air and let it rip in my phone, then I gave it a heat cycle with the blow dryer. Still no luck. Eventually I got it to load up to the start menu with minor flickering of the screen, but then stupidly I took out the battery only to see it fail once more.

It currently rests charging on my floor, with its screen flickering like a strobe light.

Should I give up on trying to revive my baby, or should I start building its grave and carving its coffin. Any helpful tips on reviving it would be nice.

This happened to me before.  The phone was all jacked up when it was submerged under water.  I simply took off the battery, and let the phone and battery dry separately.  It took about three days, but it was all back to normal.

Removing the battery is clutch. Taking the phone apart helps it dry faster.

I took it apart, and the internals seemed dry. I've tried charging my battery but the backlight on the LCD screen keeps flashing.

Maybe there's water in the LCD screen. How to remedy that, however, is beyond me.

I'm just wondering why everything breaks all at once, now I'm sitting here without a cell phone and a router. I'm not sure why the routers broke it just all of a sudden died on me.

You have probably killed the phone already.  If you tried to turn it on before it was completely dry (which can take a couple days, honestly), it was killed at that point.

Take the battery out of it, set it aside for a couple days and then try it again.

I've heard taking it apart as much as you can, and giving it an alcohol bath helps since it will indeed dry up any remaining water that may still exist. Thats what many on howardforums say to do when somebody has a "phone got wet, how can I revive it" kind of question anyway.

Also they recommend not even attempting to turn it on until you are positive all the water you can get out of the phone is out, but it is a little late for that step.

Aaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!

Hmmm... What was that for?  I was being serious.  What was wrong with what I said?

You gave no new advise.

You gave advise under an unintelligent assumption.

You posted in a commanding tone.

Last month my daughter dropped her phone(Razr) in the pool,it sunk 5 feet to the bottom of the pool. We let the battery and the phone dry separately on the dash of the car.We put it back together 5 hours later and it seems to be fine. It took a extra day for the screen to dry out. We took the phone apart again today to see how it looks inside and it looks fine. We probably got lucky. Good luck with your phone.

Last summer a friend of mine went swimming in the lake with a cell phone in his pocket for about 30 minutes before noticing it.  We set it out in the sun, hoping it would dry out.  Later that evening it powered on, but the 3, 6, 9, # buttons wouldn't press.  Then a few days later they started working again.  The moral of my story is that waiting a few days just might fix it.

Of course, taking it apart is the best thing to do so the components inside don't end up rusting.

I once spilled a gin and tonic all over my laptop. It now works fine, though it took months for all wet spots on the screen to vanish.

 Time heals all wet wounds.

pu the phone i a bowl of dry rice, it sometimes helps in pulling any extra moisture out.  My phone has been completely submerged in water about 4 or 5 times.  This worked everytime, and needs about 3 days to itself.  It heals itself.
