Yeah I guess you're right...probably not. But the zine would be cool to be back and some other original projects like before.

i'm debating the zine. i mean, it's 2008. are zines still relevant?

the hip thing is podcasts, but i would suck doing those and again, we already have PLA podcasts. the UPL zine worked because PLA stopped doing the zine, and in 1998 zines were still cool.

man, i really want to bring UPL back somehow but everything seems so obsolete.

I should announce the end of my show so that you can start up UPL Radio.

Really though, I don't see a problem with there being more than one phone loserish podcast.  Maybe you could do more of a live show.

a live podcast would mean regularly scheduled podcasts and a pretty intense equiptment setup.

i tried to release the UPL zine once a month and  it was usually once a year. i don't do schedules well.

Maybe, maybe not.  But I do remember that not that long ago I was wishing that Telecom-munists, POR, or whatever the third group was that used to post on cal's would release a new issue.  They never did.  :(

Blogs are the new zines.  Set up Wordpress, make accounts for people that will contribute and write posts whenever the hell you feel like it.  Maybe after every 10 good posts, you could archive them into UPL text files just for the hell of it.

And podcasting doesn't require special equipment.  You could easily get by with just using a $20 Skype headset and some free recording software.  The microphone I use on all the PLA Radio episodes is a $15 Karaoke microphone that I bought about 6 years ago.

Skype.  A lot of podcasts do that.

I know there are programs like SAM and VDJ that are used for streaming internet radio stations.  Those specific two cost money, though.  I don't know if there's a freeware/opensource equivalent.

what's a good way to stream a podcast live?

Skype has Skypecasts, which is free.  You can mute everyone else while you do a show.  Or there's the Winamp streaming plugin, which is how I used to stream PLA Radio before it was a podcast.  If you want to pay money, there's www.live247.com.
