Apple products are cool
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:02:10 AM »
http://www.apple.com/support/windowsvirus/

I'm not one for Windows. In fact the only reason I have a XP64 machine is for gaming; outside of that everything else I partake in the digital world with is through a *nix box of some sort. I just find it rather shady that Apple is blaming Windows for not being up to par with virus protection rather than fault themselves for having the virus launched from within their products.

Still. It's something to write about.

As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses,

seriously...

THEY shipped a product that was infected with a virus, and are upset at their competitor for not preventing something like this from happening?

I guess it would be like shooting a gun into a building, then being upset at any innocent people that you shot that were inside that building, because their walls did not prevent the bullets from harming them.

I do not generally download anything unless I know it came from a reputable source, so rarely have AV software scanning my PC - I would assume that anything that I purchased from a major manufacturer would not infect one of my systems...

I guess this is just another reason why not to buy apple products.

I'm generally annoyed by Apple culture.. They've successfully created an entire subculture around their merchandise, and a hip culture at that. Pretty smart marketing. Whenever I see someone proudly sporting an Apple logo, I ask them how it feels to be a walking advertisement for one of the hugest corporations around.

Macs are expensive as shit, and it seems like they are generally not as upgradeable as PCs, so I've always stayed away from them. I don't like the idea of having to drop $1500 every time I want to upgrade..

yup... i stay away from anything apple.. never owned any of their shit..

it was a bit of a negative the other day though...
i just rewired a network, installed a dual WAN router, and now the original router that one of his DSLs was connected to was an apple airport... and the laptop he had there was a mac...

needless to say something as simple as logging into the devices IP address to turn DHCP and PPoE off was unsuccessful.. the devices IP address did not even pull up a web interface to log into

i am clueless about their crap.. but not really interested because it is all overpriced bullshit, and it does not matter, because in 6 months from now, they will release the newest product that includes the features that they intentionally left out of the current product on the market - just so that they can drain more money from the sheeple...

but then again, you could probably charge double for a service call related to mac/apple shit since people who buy into their crap have money to burn...

It just annoys me because, well, as phonejacks said, it's a major reputable retailer so you don't expect to have to have a full resource of digital protection armaments just to install a product. This boils down to a "HEY, THOSE NATIVE AMERICANS SHOULD OF BEEN MORE HARDY TO SMALL POX; THOSE BLANKETS WOULDN'T OF BOTHERED THEM" sort of attitude.

And, yeah, it costs an arm and a leg to upgrade their over hyped pieces of shit. If you want to pay 1,500-2,000 for a FreeBSD modified kernel, be my guest. But when the hardware you want to upgrade their machines with generally has to come from themselves, or overly exaggerated pricing from a third party retailer, it isn't worth the effort at all.

As far as I'm concerned this is just as bad as Sony installing rootkits on people's machines and then stating that people in general don't know what a rootkit is, so why should they be concerned?

While I was working at this crafty little Mom and Pop PC repair shop while I was in Texas, we actually did charge double to deal with Apple products for the same exact reason stated-- Because they have money to burn. Even more annoying was when the Intel line of Macs finally came out and people could put XP/Vista on their Apple, we had a flood of idiots asking us to do that for them. So they wanted the Apple boxing, but the shitty smell of Windows inside; which I guess is better than an OS that has virtually no third party support.

But I do own a Apple G4 that 'fell off a truck' back from when I was in high school. At a hundred bucks, it was worth it. But then I immediately lost all interest in it.

There have been a couple other companies in the past decade that have shipped viruses on their CDs.  I can't remember which companies, but it was in the news years ago.

I've been in the process all week of migrating back to PC from Apple.  Fuck all this proprietary shit and these ridiculous hardware problems that they tell me will cost at least $200 to fix.

I have an iPhone 3GS and it's the first Apple product I've ever had. I like it, but it's kind of retarded that you have to jailbreak 'em to install anything not Apple approved.

I have an Android M860. It's shitty, it lags, but it does everything an Iphone does. It lets me connect my laptop online on the go, costs me only 58 bucks a month, and after rooting it it made me feel special. But, seriously, I can't think of a single reason to own an Apple product when there's a heavily less DRM'd alternative available else where at half the price.

For the last two or so years I've been using the same 4gb Sansa MP3 player with hot swappable mini-sd storage. It doesn't restrict what I can play on it, installs no software to my system nor requires any sort of software to be installed to throw songs into a folder and listen to them at my leisure or watch a movie on the incredibly tiny screen.

This hipster shit is miles above balls retarded. And I think the damn Sansa cost, maybe, 50 bucks.

Ironically, I got the iPhone because it was cheaper than the alternatives at the time; I assure you the decision had nothing to do with the hipster bullshit.

Personally iv just recently found out i love apple. my parents just bought a laptop and after messing up a few times trying to do something that dosnt work on windows i find myself wanting a macbook air. Plus its just so small making it easy to take everywhere and its still good enough to do all the video editing i need.

here is a nice price comparison
http://work.failblog.org/2011/08/15/job-fails-the-motherboard-must-be-diamonds/

Half of the vapid Mac users on there verdantly fight against the chat proclaiming that Apple has better pricing than that, that their warranties are fantastic, et cetera. No, seriously. Please stop. Your Apple is a PC. Personal Computer. It's nothing different than an over priced white box. When I want my computer to be white, I just jerk off all over it. Same effect those Mac addicted fools have; half the price.

Classic mac argument... "Everything is so easy on a Mac"

Or another way to put it: "I'm a huge dumbass, can't handle customization and need things as simple as possible"

Then there's the classic "Windows sucks" argument..   as if you are required to run Windows if you have a PC

Of course everything is easy on a Mac. There's only two programs for it, pretty hard to fuck those up.

I use a macbook pro because I edit a lot of skate videos and do a lot of photography.
Nothing against windows at all but, I've been happy with it.

Staying away from the mac vs. windows debate...
I totally agree with if it came from "their manufacturer" that saying it's windows fault is stupid.
All they had to say was. "We're sorry. Somehow a virus got added to some of the ipods before it left our manufacturer's. Beware."
